CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Brian Boyle and senior Chris Collins each netted two goals to lead fifth-ranked Boston College to a 5-3 Hockey East victory over Northeastern before 5,808 fans in Kelley Rink.
Collins netted a shorthanded goal early in the second period and scored the decisive goal late in the third period. The senior assistant captain also added one assist.
Six of the game's eight goals were special-teams tallies. The visiting Huskies scored three power-play goals, while the host Eagles scored two man-advantage goals and Collins' shorthanded goal. Northeastern (1-8-1, 1-5-1 Hockey East) was whistled for 12 penalties. BC (5-3-1, 4-1-1 HE) was called for 10 penalties.
After Northeastern junior Joe Santilli evened the score at 3-3 midway through the third period, Collins netted the gamewinner at 16:11. The goal - the first even-strength goal of the night - was his league-leading ninth of the season.
BC freshman Brock Bradford accounted for the final margin with a goal at 18:48.
Junior Yale Lewis gave Northeastern a 1-0 advantage at 7:44 of the first period. Boyle netted the first of his two goals at 15:31 to tie the score.
Collins' shorthander at 5:46 of the second period was answered less than five minutes later when Northeastern senior Brian Swiniarski beat BC goalie Cory Schneider at 10:08.
Boyle's tally at 9:15 of the third period was matched by Santilli at 11:20, setting the stage for Collins to decide the game.
Schneider made 28 saves to earn his fifth win of the season. NU junior Adam Geragosian also made 28 stops.
Game Notes: Boston College is undefeated in its last six games against Northeastern (5-0-1) and improves to 12-1-1 in the last 14 meetings between the teams ... with three points (two goals and one assist), Chris Collins recorded the second three-point performance of his career. It also marked his third multiple-goal game of the season and fifth of his career. Collins ranks first nationally in shorthanded goals this season with three ... with two goals, Brian Boyle tallied his first multiple-goal game of the season and fourth of his career. Boyle has now registered two points in consecutive games ... Brock Bradford extended his point-scoring streak to five games, during which he has scored four goals and one assist.
