Three high-school standouts - 6-foot-3-inch guard Daye Kaba, 6-foot-7-inch forward Tyler Roche and 6-foot-6-inch forward Shamari Spears - have signed national letters of intent to play basketball at Boston College, according to an announcement by Boston College head coach Al Skinner. All three players will enroll at BC in September 2006 and begin play during the 2006-07 season.
Kaba, who plays at Our Savior New American School in Centereach, N.Y., is a native of France who came to the United States in the fall of 2004. He averaged 16.0 points, 8.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game as a junior. Kaba has competed with the New York Elite AAU program. This past summer, he attended the prestigious Reebok ABCD camp.
Roche, a standout at Manchester (N.H.) Central High School, earned 2005 Gatorade Player of the Year honors for the State of New Hampshire. He gained Class L All-State first-team honors as a junior, averaging 24.0 points and 8.0 rebounds and leading the Little Green to the 2005 Class L championship. Roche captured All-State second-team honors as a sophomore.
Spears averaged 26.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game at Blair (N.J.) Academy in 2004-05. He gained All-Metro New York fourth-team honors as a junior. Spears was a 1,000-point scorer at Salisbury (N.C.) High School, before moving on to Blair prior to the 2003-04 campaign.
