Men's Hockey Falls To Harvard, 5-3

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Three power-play goals helped stake Harvard to a 4-0 lead and the visiting Crimson withstood a fierce Boston College comeback to earn a hard-fought 5-3 non-league victory before 5,421 fans in Kelley Rink.
Harvard led 2-0 after one period and extended its lead to 4-0, before BC got on the scoreboard at 18:21 of the second period. The host Eagles narrowed their deficit to one goal - 4-3 - with goals at 12:47 and 15:42 of the third period, before Harvard (4-2-0) secured the win with an empty-net tally.
Sophomore Dave Watters gave Harvard a 1-0 lead with a man-advantage goal at 16:06 of the first period. Junior teammate Ryan Maki doubled the Crimson lead with another power-play goal at 19:37.
BC (4-3-1) outshot Harvard 18-3 in the middle period, but the visitors converted twice. Sophomore Jon Pelle's power-play goal at 5:35 and senior Dan Murphy's goal at 10:24 gave Harvard a 4-0 advantage.
BC freshman Nathan Gerbe netted a power-play goal late in the period to make the count 4-1.
Senior Peter Harrold and freshman Brock Bradford each scored to rally the home team and ignite the crowd. The Eagles continued to mount pressure and pulled goaltender Cory Schneider with 1:43 to play. BC had five shots with the extra skater, including a Brian Boyle shot that hit the post, before Harvard's Charlie Johnson netted the final goal with eight seconds to play.
Schneider finished with 13 saves in 58:17. Harvard's John Daigneau made 36 stops.
Boston College will face Northeastern on its home ice on Saturday, Nov. 19. Face off is set for 7 p.m. The game will be televised by CN8.
Game Notes: The loss marks just the second in the last 11 meetings against Harvard and the first home loss to the Crimson since Jan. 9, 1979, a span of nine games ... Freshman Nathan Gerbe has now scored in each of the last two games ... Freshman Brock Bradford extended his point-streak to four games ... With a power-play goal at 16:06 in the first period, BC's penalty kill snapped a streak of 17 consecutive opponent power plays killed.
