Chestnut Hill, Mass. - No. 1 Boston College co-ed sailing placed fifth in the 18-boat field at the Schell Trophy at MIT over the weekend. Adam Roberts, Aly Whitehead, Reed Johnson and Julie Howe led the Eagles to the fifth-place finish, the first time since September 17 the Eagles did not win the weekend's co-ed Intersectional. Having already won six Intersectionals on the season, No. 1 co-ed sailing looks to improve on the best record in college sailing in two weeks at the Atlantic Coast Championships.
Sailing's Freshman squad captured the Nickerson Trophy, the fall New England Championships, by an impressive 72 points. The Eagles won 16 of 26 races with Brian Kamilar and Andrew Schneider winning the A division and Parker Dwyer, Allie Nagle and Lauren Gillooly dominating the B division. The win qualifies the freshman squad for the Atlantic Coast Championships next weekend.
The Women's team had its best performance of the year over the weekend as well, placing seventh at the Urn Trophy and qualifying for the Atlantic Coast Championships. Martha Pitt and Lily Beck sailed A division, Becky Mergenthaler and Emily Flint sailed B on Saturday and Leigh Kempton stepped in on Sunday to skipper the last 11 B division races.
