Chesnut Hill, Mass. - The No. 5 Boston College co-ed sailing team captured its third straight regatta over the weekend, this time doing it against the nation's top competition. The Eagles took home the Danmark Trophy hosted by the Coast Guard Academy with a nine point victory over No. 1 University of Hawaii. Traditionally one of the nation's most competitive events of the fall season, this year's field of 18 colleges included 14 of the top 20 nationally ranked teams.
Freshman skipper Adam Roberts and senior crew Aly Whitehead once again led the Eagle effort, earning a second place finish in the A division. Sophomores Reed Johnson and Julie Howe sailed to a sixth place finish in the B division with a strong day two performance.
Elsewhere this weekend, strong performances were turned in by freshman Brian Kamilar and Andrew Schneider and sophomores Alan Frith and Reid Fitzgerald. The Eagles came up just one point short of victory at the Penobscot Bay Open at Maine Maritime, placing second out of 14 schools.
Boston College also won the Metro Series sailed out of their home site at Savin Hill Yacht Club. Alden Reid and Justine O'Connor teamed up with Chas Bayer and Quinn Ziatyk, easily beating the field of 14. Martha Pitt and Lily Beck combined with Becky Mergenthaler and Emily Flint to take third place at the Women's Regis Bowl hosted by Boston University.
