Cross Country Teams Prepare for ACC Championships

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the ACC Championships on Monday, Oct. 31 in Tallahasse, Fla.
The women's squad enters the tournament ranked 14th in the country and are led by senior co-captains Maria Cicero and Laurel Burdick. Cicero, a three-time All-American, highlighted the season with an eighth place finish at the NCAA Pre-Nationals. The meet fielded 232 runners.
Burdick earned ACC Player of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 3 after finishing third overall at the Murray Keatinge Invitational on Oct. 1. Burdick ran the five kilometer race in 16 minutes, 52.20 seconds, pacing the Eagles to a second place finish.
On the men's side, sophomore Patrick Mellea earned ACC Player of the Week honors after a stellar ninth place finish out of a field of 321 runners at the New England Championship. Mellea clocked in at 25:25 in the 4.95 mile race. The North Arlington, N.J. native led his team to a third place finish out of 47 teams.
