West Point, N.Y. - The women's tennis team had a strong showing at the ITA Regionals in West Point N.Y. with the freshmen doubles tandem of Dasha Cherkasov and Lana Krasnopolsky reaching the semifinals of their draw.
Cherkasov and Krasnopolsky dominated in their first three matches, winning 8-3, 8-3, 8-2, but ran into William and Mary's Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic in the semifinals, ending an impressive run.
Krasnopolsky also found success on the singles side. The freshman took out URI's Valerie Chacon, 6-0, 6-1, then rolled past the tournament's nine seed, Preethi Mukurdan from Harvard, 6-2, 6-1. In the round of sixteen, she ran into familiar foe Moulton-Levy who beat Krasnopolsky on her way to winning the draw.
Cherkasov beat Colgate's Alex Seaton in impressive fashion 6-1, 6-1, but was knocked out by the other half of the William and Mary doubles tandem, Zoricic.
Szilvia Szegedi defeated Temple's Yuri Kurashima 6-2, 6-4, before losing a hard-fought 7-6(3), 6-3 match to the number four seed, Harvard's Eva Wang.
