Chestnut Hill, Mass. - After a four-game battle and three different Eagles putting up double-digit kills, the North Carolina State Wolfpack prevailed in a four-game win, 30-27, 26-30, 30-27 and 30-25. The Eagles look to bounce back against the visiting North Carolina Tarheels on Sunday.
Sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Johnson, who leads the team for the season with 208 kills, tied her season-high best for kills, putting down a team-high 18 for the match. Junior Dorota Niemczewska and sophomore Abigail Hasebroock both contributed 14 kills a piece. Hasebroock led the team in hitting percentage for the match with .303.
Junior middle blocker Shardai Davis also had a strong performance tying a season-high seven blocks for a match. This led the team for the night as Davis also tied her season-high for digs with a total of 19. Davis also added eight kills throughout the four-game match.
Junior co-captain Allison Anderson also had 19 digs on the night while contributing one served ace and one kill. Junior Morgan Woodcock assisted on five blocks and had six kills and two digs.
The first game remained close for both teams until the Wolfpack pulled away near the end taking the first game, 30-27. The Eagles would not be shut-out and came back strong in game two. With the score, 21-25 in the Wolfpack's favor the Eagles went on a 10-1 run to claim the second game, 30-26.
In the third game the Eagles were ahead with the score at 27-26 but North Carolina State took what turned out to be a crucial timeout as the Eagles were gaining momentum. The Wolfpack came back strong and took four straight points to gain a 2-1 advantage over BC in the match. The start of the fourth game proved to be another back and forth battle between the two teams but with the score 26-24, the Wolfpack went on a 4-1 run that was good enough to take the game and the match from BC.
Despite the loss, the Eagles are looking ahead to Sunday where they take on the North Carolina Tarheels for the first time ever. The Tarheels dropped a tough match to Maryland, 3-1. BC falls to 6-14 overall and 1-10 in ACC play. They travel on the road next weekend as they take on Florida State on Oct. 28 and Miami on Oct. 30.
