
Fourth-ranked Men's Hockey Defeats Bowling Green, 9-6

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Chris Collins and Joe Rooney each tallied two goals and Joe Adams registered his first career goal and the gamewinner to lead fourth-ranked Boston College to a 9-6 win over Bowling Green on Saturday night.
The Eagles (1-1), who scored twice to open the game on a power-play goal from Collins and Pat Gannon's (1 goal, 1 assist) first of the year, allowed Bowling Green to tie the game twice, at 2-2 and 6-6, before the Eagles scored three unanswered goals to win the game.
Nathan Gerbe, who assisted on Collins' first goal, added an insurance tally - the first of his career - at 12:47 in the third period to put the Eagles up 8-6, before Rooney added his second goal to cap the BC scoring at 13:59 in the third period.
Bowling Green (0-2) knotted the game at two in the first period through Jonathan Matsumoto's first of three goals at 2:43 and Derek Whitmore's power-play tally at 9:50.
But Boston College answered as captain Peter Harrold (1 goal, 1 assist) scored the first of four consecutive BC goals by beating Bowling Green goalie Jimmy Spratt (16 saves) at 14:49. Rooney then scored at 1:53 in the second period and Brian Boyle's tally at 7:18 put the Eagles up 5-2 and forced a Bowling Green change in goal. The goals marked the first for Boyle and Harrold on the year.
Collins tallied the fourth-straight goal for BC, beating replacement goaltender Jon Horrell (eight saves) on a breakaway at 10:11. The Falcons then scored three goals in a span of four minutes, including two power-play goals from Matsumoto, who also scored the Falcons first goal of the game and registered the first BGSU hat trick since Feb. 2, 2000.
Bowling Green tied the game at six on their fourth power-play goal of the game at 5:21 in the third period before the Eagles, who never trailed in the game, answered with three straight to end the game.
Dan Bertram, Brett Motherwell and Andrew Orpik recorded two assists apiece.
Eagles' goaltender Cory Schneider registered 28 saves en route to his first victory of the season.
Boston College will play its third road game of the season on Saturday, Oct. 22 when it opens Hockey East action against Northeastern at Matthews Arena. The game is set for 7 p.m.
Game Notes: Head coach Jerry York, who led Bowling Green to the 1984 national championship and spent 15 years (1979-94) as head coach of the Falcons, coached the Eagles in their first game at Bowling Green since 1996, when BC won at Bowling Green twice in October ... York has now won each of the last four meetings between the teams ... the last time the two teams met - a 6-5 BC win on Dec. 27, 2002 at the Dodge Holiday Classic at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minn. - then-freshman Peter Harrold notched the first goal of his career ... in two career games against the Falcons, Harrold has tallied four points - two goals and two assists.
