Women's Cross Country Finishes Second at Murray Keatinge

Orono, Maine - The women's cross country team placed second out of 10 teams at the Murray Keatinge Invitational. Senior Laurel Burdick was the Eagles top finisher, placing third overall out of 92 total runners. The race was hosted by the University of Maine on Saturday, Oct. 1.
Burdick ran the course in 16 minutes, 52.20 seconds, less than a second off the second-place finisher, Theresa McWalters of Stanford University.
Three-time All-American Maria Cicero placed sixth overall with a time of 17:12.30. Freshman Mallory Champa was the next Eagle to cross the line, coming in ninth with a time of 17:25.20.
Following right behind Champa was senior Kristen Coon in ninth. Junior Kathleen Smyth placed 16th overall, while classmate Jessica Flinn was 18th.
Senior Anne Hessberg placed 20th overall, while sophomore Nikki Tufts was the 23rd finisher.
Sophomores Lynn Kubeja and Mary Heitkamp placed 27th and 29th, respectively. Rounding out the field for the Eagles were sophomore Jennifer Heyde and freshman Erika Somogyi, coming in 38th and 43rd.
The Eagles run again on Oct. 15 in Terre Haute, Ind. in the NCAA Pre-Meet.
