Junior Kristen Coon executed one of track's toughest doubles perfectly on Saturday afternoon, winning the 1,500- and 3,000-meter events while leading Boston College to victory at the UNH Invitational. BC had the first-place finisher or relay team in 12 of the meet's 18 events.
Coon ran the 1,500 in 4:42.43, finishing less than two seconds in front of teammate Melissa Sherman. Coon dominated the 3,000-meters, crossing the line more than seven seconds in front of the second-place finisher from New Hampshire. Sherman won the 800-meters in 2:22.24 and was also a member of BC's second-place 4x800-meter relay team.
Sophomore Kasey Hill also won two events for the Eagles, finishing first in the 55-meter dash and 55-meter hurdles. Hill ran the season's second-fastest time in the hurdles with a mark of 8.37 seconds.
Freshman Alison Fogarty was victorious in the 400-meters, edging out a competitor from UNH for the win. Sophomore Kathleen Smyth won the 500-meters by nearly three seconds and finished third in the 200-meter dash. Senior Saki Sugano won the pole vault and junior Jessica Fazekas dominated the competition in the shot put.
The Eagles return to action this weekend in the Northeastern University Invitational.
