Volleyball Sweeps In Final Day At Sea Sun Invitational

The Boston College volleyball team swept Fairfield University (1-3) and host, University of Maine (1-2) today in the final day of competition at the Sea Sun Invitational. The Eagles did not drop one game in the two matches, bringing them to 3-2 on the season. The Eagles opened up the day against Fairfield. BC won the first game 30-26, thanks to its consistent play on offense and defense. Morgan Woodcock led the charge as she registered 11 kills and six block assists in the match. Dorota Niemczewska also continued her solid play with seven kills, nine digs, and six block assists. BC continued to dominate in the second game, taking it from the Stags by a score of 30-18. Captains Allison Anderson and Verena Rost continued to dominate in all areas of the court. Anderson had 11 kills and 12 digs, while Rost recorded three aces, 31 assists, and 16 digs in the match. The young volleyball squad never looked back in the final game of the match. Solid defensive play by freshman, Kristin Whalley helped the Eagles take the game 30-26. Whalley recorded 15 digs in the match. Katie Andersen also hit the ball well as she tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 17 digs. The Eagles kept their momentum going into the second match against the University of Maine. Both teams battled back-and-forth in the first game, but BC was able to break away with the help of big kills by Rost, Alison Shepp, and Katie Andersen down the stretch. The Eagles took the first game 34-32 from the Black Bears. Rost put in another successful performance as she completed 28 assists and 11 digs in the match. BC pounded Maine in the second game by a score of 30-14. Allison Anderson led the offensive charge throughout the match with 10 kills. Anderson added 12 digs to complete her fifth double-double in as many tries. The Eagles continued their steady play in the third and final game of the match. Liz Aron and Whalley were huge defensive threats for BC. Aron made 12 digs, while Whalley added 10 more. The Eagles took the game 30-24. BC will travel to Northeastern on Tuesday, September 7 to take on the Huskies at 7 p.m.
