Sailing Team Continues Its Winning Ways

BC Sailing posted another impressive weekend at seven events around New England last weekend. The #2 nationally ranked coed team finished 2nd out of 18 at the Hood Trophy Intersectional at Tufts. Ben Gent '05 and Caitlin Gill '05 placed second in A division, just behind Tufts and Frank Ustach '05 and Joy MacDougall '05 placed 3rd in A division. The BC coed team has now placed first or second at three out of four intersectional events this fall.
Jay Connolly '07 and Erin Morley '07 teamed up with Maura Winston '06 and Becky Mergenthaler '07 to take 4th of 15 at the two-day Loder Trophy at UNH. Winston/Mergenthaler placed 2nd in B divison, just 3 points shy of first.
The strong freshman team took first and second place at this weekend's Freshman Series at Dartmouth. BC's class of '08 dominated the event, placing 1st -3rd and 5th individually in the field of 14. Alan Frith '08 and Mallory Fontenot '08 were the top finishers, followed closely by Alden Reid '08 and Julie Howe '08, Leigh Kempton '08 and Emily Flint '08, and Chaz Bayer '08 and Quinn Ziatyk '08.
In Singlehanded competition at Dartmouth, Reed Johnson '08 narrowly qualified for the New England Singlehanded Championship, placing 7th in the field of 14. Tim Orazem '06 missed qualifying in the light air event and looks to qualify next weekend. Julie Wilson '05 struggled at the first day of Women's Singlehanded New Englands and failed to qualify for day two.
Spencer Powers '07 and Brook Dow `07 along with Ernie Bourassa '06 and Kelly Dusinberre '05 dominated the Metro Series regatta, taking first in A and B division, as well as first overall.
On Sunday, Mike Grosso '06 and Audrey Seynhaeve '07 along with Lizz McAlpine '06 and Aly Whitehead '07 finished 2nd at an Invitational event at Harvard. The Eagles were narrowly defeated by BU.
