Yesterday Inside College Hockey announced its Preseason All-American selections for the 2004-05 season. The selections are made by the Inside College Hockey editors and staff, with additional input from coaches and media nationwide.
The All-American first team is comprised of two Boston College Eagles. Defenseman Andrew Alberts, who received the Old Time Hockey Best Defensive Defenseman last season, was honored with the preseason selection. Also at the conclusion of the 2003-04 season, Alberts was named to the Hockey East All-stars second team.
Junior forward Patrick Eaves was named to the 2004-05 Preseason All-American first team. He was also selected to the 2003-04 Hockey East All-stars second team with Alberts. Eaves, who was the Hockey East March player of the month last season, finished out last year with 41 points on 18 goals and 23 assists.
Forward and team captain Ryan Shannon was selected to the third team. Shannon's 42-point 2003-04 campaign distinguished him among the best forwards in the Hockey East conference. After last season, he tied teammate Tony Voce for Hockey East Scoring Champion accolades and he was also a runner-up for the best defensive forward honors.
The Preseason All-Rookie team features two newcomers to the Eagle squad. Dan Bertram (Calgary, Alberta) earned the honor as a forward. He secured 2003-04 Alberta Junior Hockey League Rookie of the Year honor with the Camrose Kodiaks. Bertram registered 55 points, 22 goals and 33 assists, in 44 games for the AJHL team.
Goalie Cory Schneider was also selected to the All-Rookie Team. The Marblehead, Mass. native attended Phillips Andover Academy where he was a two-time All-New England selection. Schneider posted a 17-5-2 record and a 1.42 goals against average in 2003-04. He also had a .960 save percentage, recording four shutouts. In last year's NHL draft, he was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the first round.
The Eagles open their 2004-05 campaign with an exhibition game against New Brunswick on October 9. The game begins at 7 p.m. and will be played at BC's Kelley Rink.
