No. 9 Field Hockey Tops Providence, 5-1

Waltham, Mass. -- The ninth-ranked Boston College field hockey team posted a 5-1 win over Providence in its first BIG EAST game Tuesday evening at the Bentley College Turf in Waltham, Mass. With the win, Boston College improves to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Friars fell to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the BIG EAST.
The Eagles struck first, scoring the game's first goal at the 21:26 mark of the first half. Sara York (Watertown, Mass.) redirected a Sabrina Lazzari (Weston, Mass.) shot on goal for the quick 1-0 lead. The Friars, however, would tie the game at the 14:14 mark of the first and the game would remain notched at one through the intermission.
In the second half, Boston College's scoring attack came alive. The Eagles netted four goals on nine shots at the net. Freshman Alyssa Emrick (Bangor, Pa.) scored what would stand as the game-winning goal with 29:22 left to play. She added her team's fifth score of the evening.
York and Emrick each chipped in with a pair of goals while Lazarri added a goal and two assists on the night.
The Eagles return to action Saturday when they travel to Syracuse for another BIG EAST contest. BC will return home for an Oct. 3 contest against Brown.
