The BC Women's Sailing Team opened their season with a 4th place finish at MIT's Man-Labs Women's Regatta. The 13 team event saw Julie Wilson '05 and Lizz McAlpine '06 finish 3rd in A Division. In B Division, freshman Leigh Kempton and Emily Flint began their college sailing careers with a 5th place finish. The BC Women look forward to their first major, two-day regatta this weekend at Dartmouth.
The A division team finished behind Harvard's 2004 All-Americans Sloan Devlin and Christina Dahlman, who finished first, and Brown's Anne Davidson and Sally Walkerman.
Meanwhile, just to the west on the Charles River the first Metro Series of the year took place. Ernie Bourassa '06 and Kelly Dusinberre '05 finished 5th in the A Division. The B Division was won by youngsters Spencer Powers '07 and Brook Dow '07. Despite winning B Division, BC finished a disappointing 4th place - just two points out of second. Dartmouth won the first Metro Series - with an impressive 5 points in 5 races in A Division.
On Sunday, the teams of Jay Connolly '07 and Erin Morley '07, Tim Orazem '06 and Audrey Seynhaeve '07, and Reed Johnson '08 and Julie Howe '08 finished 2nd to Tufts in the first Team Race Series of the season. Tufts went on to win with a perfect 3-0 record, while the Eagles placed 2nd, with a 2-1 record.
The coed team raced a two-day event at Dartmouth last weekend. There was very little racing, due to light winds. With no races on Saturday and only four in each division on Sunday, racing didn't start until 2pm. BC sailors Jeff Bonanni '05 and Becky Mergenthaler '07, along with Ben Gent '05 and Caitlin Gill '05 were off their pace of last weekend. Finishing 10th out of 24 schools, the Eagles were disappointed, but look forward to next weekend's coed intersectionals in Boston and New York.
