Junior Szilvia Szegedi and senior Nida Waseem both received national rankings from the ITA this week. Preseason rankings recognized 125 of the best women's collegiate tennis players in the country.
Szegedi and Waseem, ranked 84 and 114 respectively, are hoping to continue their success from last season. Szegedi finished 2004 with an individual rank of 119 and is expected to improve upon her 16-5 record at No. 1 singles. Waseem, who competed at No. 2 and 3 singles in 2004, compiled an 11-6 record in singles action.
The individual accolades are part of a recent swing of success for the women's tennis program. The Eagles finished 2004 with a third-place finish in the East region and a national ranking of 59. The team also earned ITA All Academic honors for its standout performance in the classroom.
The Eagles will open the 2004-05 season when they head to Williamsburg, Va. to compete in the College of William and Mary Invitational from September 24-26.
