Volleyball Splits In New England Challenge Tournament

The Boston College volleyball team dropped its home opener to Texas Christian University (1-2) in the New England Challenge today 3-1. The Eagles responded in their second match of the day as they topped Saint Peters College 3-1, bringing them to 5-3 on the season.
The Eagles opened play at the Power Gym by battling back and forth with the Horned Frogs in the first game of the match. The teams fought it out, but Texas Christian prevailed in the end, taking the game 30-28.
BC responded in game two by attacking the Horned Frogs from the start. Allison Anderson and Katie Andersen both played consistently throughout the match for the Eagles. Both recorded double doubles on the game, as Anderson posted 12 kills and 12 digs, while Andersen added 12 kills and 15 digs. The Eagles won the second game 30-28.
In games three and four the two teams continued to fight for the lead. Dorota Niemczewska and Morgan Woodcock tried to rally the Eagle squad on defense. Niemczewska had an impressive performance with five blocks, nine kills, and nine digs in the match, while Woodcock added four blocks and seven kills. Unfortunately the Horned Frogs attack was too much for the Eagles, as they dropped game three 30-26 and game four 30-28.
The Eagles rebounded in their second match of the day against Saint Peters College (0-2). In the opening game, the Eagles dominated from the start by going on an early run. Allison Anderson continued her remarkable play as she led the Eagle charge with her eighth consecutive double double. She posted 14 kills and 12 digs in the match. BC took the first game 30-19.
Game two proved to be a tougher challenge for BC, as Saint Peters rallied from behind to take the game. The Peacocks stole game two from the Eagles, 33-31.
In games three and four, the Eagles responded with consistent play from the entire team. Verena Rost led the squad with 43 assists and eight kills. Katie Andersen played well as she posted 15 kills and 18 digs in the match. Freshman Abigail Hasebroock also contributed for BC as she recorded 10 kills and two blocks on the night. The Eagles beat the Peacocks 30-13 and 30-17 in the final two games of the match.
The Eagles will look to make it two wins in a row as they host Holy Cross (1-5) on Tuesday, September 14 at 7 p.m.
