Boston College has been chosen to finish fourth in the BIG EAST men's soccer preseason poll. Senior captain Guy Melamed, a two-time All-BIG EAST first-team selection, was named Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. The back is expected to be the anchor for an Eagle defense that surrendered just 14 goals last season. Melamed was also named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team. The league's 12 head coaches vote for every team except their own, with 11 points for a first-place vote, 10 for second, and so on. The Eagles tallied 84 total points. St. John's received eight first-place votes and has been chosen as the conference's preseason favorite. St. John's lost to Indiana, 2-1, in last year's national final. Connecticut followed the Red Storm with three first-place votes and Notre Dame was a close third, with 104 total points. The Eagles open their season at home on September 3, when they take on last year's Ivy League champion, Brown, at 7:00 P.M. Boston College plays its first BIG EAST match on September 11, when they visit Syracuse at 1:00 P.M.
