John Oates To Join Boston College Basketball Team

John Oates, a 6-foot-10-inch forward from Don Bosco (N.J.) Prep, will join the Boston College men's basketball team for the 2004-05 season, according to an announcement made by BC head basketball coach Al Skinner. Oates averaged 12.5 points, 13.7 rebounds and 3.3 blocked shots per game in his senior season, capturing All-County and All-League honors. Oates was selected as the New Jersey recipient of the inaugural Dave DeBusschere Award. The award is given to the top male and female athletes in the states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The criteria for determining the winners were outstanding overall excellence in athletics (not limited to basketball), academics and community service. The Harriman, N.Y., resident served as Don Bosco's captain in his final season. He led the 2003-04 Ironmen to the Bergen County championship and an NNJIL Division C crown.
