Boston College offensive tackle Jeremy Trueblood (Indianapolis, IN) is one of seven Big East players named to the 2004 Outland Trophy Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America has announced.
Trueblood got the starting nod at left tackle for the 2003 season opener vs. Wake Forest and started all 13 games for the Eagles. He became a key cog in an offensive line that paved the way for Derrick Knight to become BC's sixth 1,000-yard rusher in a row and all-time rushing leader.
The Outland Trophy annually is presented to the top interior lineman in college football on either side of the ball - tackles, centers or guards - in a vote of the FWAA All-America Team Committee in late November.
Presented since 1946, the Outland Trophy is the third oldest award in college football behind the Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award. It is named after the late John Outland, an All-America lineman at the University of Pennsylvania. BC's Mike Ruth won the Outland Trophy in 1985.
The 2004 Outland Trophy winner will be announced on December 9 on the ESPN College Football Awards Show from Orlando, Florida. The Outland Trophy will be presented to the winner by the Omaha Sports Committee on January 13 at a banquet in Omaha, Nebraska.
In addition to Trueblood, other Big East players on the Watch List include Jeremy Hines and Dan Mozes (West Virginia), Ryan Krug (Connecticut), Rob Pettiti (Pittsburgh), and Matt Tarullo and Adam Terry (Syracuse).
