Men's Basketball Honors Announced

Sophomore forward Craig Smith earned team MVP honors and junior center Nate Doornekamp captured the Frank Power Memorial Award, highlighting the program's year-end Cage Club Banquet. The event was held at the Newton Marriott on Sunday, May 2.
Smith earned All-BIG EAST first-team honors after leading the Eagles in both scoring (16.9 ppg) and rebounding (8.3 ppg). The sophomore also gained Division I District 1 all-star honors from both the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the United States Basketball Writers Association. Smith averaged 19.3 points and 12.0 rebounds per game at the 2004 BIG EAST Championship to receive All-Tournament accolades.
Smith also took home the team's Top Rebounder award.
Doornekamp averaged 3.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in 34 games this season to earn the Frank Power Memorial Award, which is given annually to the player who best demonstrates the dedication, spirit, loyalty and love for Boston College and its basketball program that was characteristic of the Eagles' former coach.
In addition to Smith and Doornekamp, five other individuals were recognized at the banquet. Senior Uka Agbai earned Defensive MVP honors as well as the team's Academic Award; sophomore Louis Hinnant captured Most Improved Player honors; freshman Jared Dudley took home the Coaches' Award; senior Dan McDermott won the Mary Kay Waldron Managers' Award; and junior Jermaine Watson captured the Sixth Man accolade for the second consecutive year.
Boston College finished the 2003-04 season with a 24-10 record, including a 10-6 mark in BIG EAST action. The Eagles earned an invitation to the NCAA Tournament, where they defeated Utah in the first round before losing to Georgia Tech in the second round.
