Women's Track And Field Finishes 10th At ECAC Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Boston College senior Jennifer Donovan (Melville, N.Y.) won the 3000-meter steeplechase for the third-straight week and sophomore Alexis Lake (Breesport, N.Y.) qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships with a sixth-place performance also in the 3000-meter steeplechase to lead the BC women's track and field squad to a 10th-place finish at the ECAC Championships, held Thursday, May 13 through Sunday, May 16 at Yale University.
The University of Pittsburgh won the meet with 92.20 total points. Runner-up Syracuse accumulated 64 team points and Duke finished with 54 to round out the top three. BC amassed 30.20 team points to finish 10th. A total of 47 teams competed at the ECAC Championships.
Freshman Kasey Hill (Montgomery Centre, Vt.) placed fifth in the heptathlon and extended her all-time school record with 4811 overall points. She improved the schools and her own previous mark of 4683 total points, set at Holy Cross April 14.
Donovan, who also captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase crown at the BIG EAST and New England Outdoor Championships, clocked 10:15.72 at the ECACs - over 12 seconds faster than the runner-up. She also earned a second-place performance in the 3000-meter run. Alexis Lake notched a sixth-place performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a season-best mark of 10:39.38. Donovan and Lake will represent Boston College at the 2004 NCAA Regional Outdoor Championships, May 28-29 at the University of Florida.
Also earning points for BC were freshman Jessica Flinn (Sandown, N.H.), sophomore Jessica Fazekas (Closter, N.J.), junior Megan Mara (Avon, Conn.) and junior Melissa Sherman (Dennis, Mass.). Flinn placed eighth in the 1500 at 4:32.47 while Fazekas' throw of 46-00.00 smashed her own and the school's mark in the shot put and also landed her in eighth. Mara cleared 11-09.75 in the pole vault which tied her for sixth and Sherman placed seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:12.18.
