New York, N.Y. - Boston College senior point guard Amber Jacobs (Clarks Summit, Pa.) will be among 25 players confirmed to participate in the 2004 WNBA Pre-Draft Camp at the Madison Square Garden Training Center in Tarrytown, NY from April 7-8. Jacobs and the other WNBA hopefuls - comprised of players from more than 20 colleges and universities - will showcase their skills during the two-day combine in hopes of keeping their professional dreams alive.
All 13 WNBA teams will be scouting players in preparation for the 2004 WNBA Draft, which will be held beginning at noon ET on Saturday, April 17 at the NBA Entertainment studios in Secaucus, N.J. Should she be drafted on that day, Jacobs would be the second Boston College player to be drafted in the WNBA. In the 2000 draft, Cal Bouchard (Aurora, Ontario) was drafted by the Detroit Shock in the fourth round as the 60th pick overall.
For the first time, ESPN will televise the first round of the draft, leading into its coverage of the 2004 NBA Playoffs. NBA TV, WNBA.com and ESPN.com will cover all three rounds, providing complete analysis and comprehensive information on all 13 teams' selections.
The WNBA will tip off its eighth season Thursday, May 20 with three Western Conference games featuring the San Antonio Silver Stars vs. the Houston Comets, the Sacramento Monarchs vs. the Phoenix Mercury, and the Seattle Storm vs. the Minnesota Lynx. ABC will air the first of seven regular-season Saturday afternoon games on May 22, as the Connecticut Sun hosts the Phoenix Mercury at 4 p.m. EDT. ESPN2 will televise 10 regular-season contests in 2004, with the Oxygen network telecasting five additional games.
Pre-Draft sessions will be held this Wednesday and Thursday at Madison Square Garden Training Center, with media availability from 8:55-9:25 p.m. ET on Wednesday and from 12:00-12:30 ET on Thursday. Media should e-mail credential and interview requests to Jay Moore (jmoore@wnba.com).
