Boston College has accepted an invitation to race in the 2004 Women's Eastern Sprints Championship on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. on Sunday, May 9, 2004.
The Eastern Sprints are the championship of the Eastern Association of Women's Rowing Colleges (EAWRC).
The Eagles will race varsity, junior varsity and novice eight boats, as well as a varsity four boat and a novice four against the Northeast's strongest rowing programs, including Harvard University - the defending National Champion - and a total of seven teams currently ranked in the top 20. They include Princeton (third), Brown (fourth), Harvard (fifth), Yale (ninth), Cornell (14th), Boston University (15th), and Syracuse University (18th).
"The team is looking forward to this opportunity to compete with some of the country's best programs in a championship race," said Head Coach Steve Fiske. "Last year the top five finishers at Women's Sprints were invited to compete at the NCAA Championships."
The 2003-2004 campaign has been an exceptional year for BC. The invitation to compete in Eastern Sprints was extended after Boston College rounded off one of its most successful regular seasons by placing second in field of 22 at the Knecht Cup on April 18.
