LAS VEGAS - Freshman Soma Kesthely (Budapest, Hungary) earned his first collegiate singles victory while senior Justin Slattery (Hampton, N.H.) pulled out his fifth consecutive win at the no.1 spot as the Boston College men's tennis team defeated California-Riverside, 6-1, in Las Vegas on Sunday.
With the win, the Eagles snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 3-5 on the season.
Kesthely defeated Jeremy Owen in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, at the no.5 singles slot and Slattery defeated Mark Contreras in three sets to win his fifth straight. Also earning victories for BC were Kiernan Laughlin (Phoenix, Ariz.), Derrick Chou (Great Neck, N.Y.), and Paul Colahan (Beverly, Mass.).
The Eagles play UNLV in Las Vegas on Tuesday, March 2.
