Senior Garret Greer (Peabody, Mass.) drove in five runs to lead the Boston College baseball team to a 14-2 win over Valparaiso in Bradenton, Fla., Thursday, March 4. BC improved to 3-5 while the Crusaders remain winless after six contests.
Greer, one of four Eagles to record a pair of hits, went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Juniors Marco Albano (Arlington, Mass.) and Drew Locke (Weymouth, Mass.) each posted two hits, and Eric Wright (Southboro, Mass.) was a perfect 2-for-2 on the day, relieving Jason Delaney (Hanson, Mass.) in left field, who powered BC?s lone home run of the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Senior Mike Gauthier (Salem, Mass.) threw eight innings; he allowed two runs - one earned - on six hits with four strikeouts and just two walks.
The Eagle offense plated a run in five of eight innings, including five runs in each of the last two frames.
Valparaiso's Tom Starck took the loss on the mound, surrendering four runs on five hits in five innings of work.
BC scrimmages the Red Sox, Friday, March 5. Game time is 1 p.m.
