Track Teams Compete In Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Boston College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the 2004 adidas Raleigh Relays, Friday and Saturday at Derr Track on the campus of North Carolina State University. The Eagles had a number of strong performances, led by senior Erin Maloney (Scranton, Pa.) who finished first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, in the meet which consisted of over 2,000 athletes from 135 schools across the nation.
Maloney turned in a time of 11:06.75 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event to earn the first-place finish. Megan Mara (Avon, Conn.) placed 14th in pole vault competition clearing 11'9 ?", and Melissa Sherman (Dennis, Mass.) earned 23rd place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.67 to round out the women's performers in the top 25 for BC.
The women's team placed three runners in the top 50 in the 1500, highlighted by senior Jennifer Kramer's (Loundonville, N.Y.) time of 4:25.59, good enough for fourth place overall. Laurel Burdick (Manlius, N.Y.) took 38th with a time of 4:38.04 while Jennifer Donovan (Melville, N.Y.) clocked 4:43.88, which earned her 41st.
In the unseeded 1,500-meter run, Anne Hessberg (Slingerlands, N.Y.) turned in a third-place performance with a time of 4:45.85 while Laura Smith (Holden, Mass.) placed 10th at 4:48.80.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team placed 15th out of 41 teams, touring the course in 3:51.41. While the men's 4x800 meter relay team 17th place with a time of 7:52.89.
Also highlighting the men's performances were Stephen Walsh (Jamestown, R.I.) Mark Alizzi (Syosset, N.Y.) and Trevor Rozier-Byrd (Freehold, N.J.). Walsh earned 35th place overall in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:00.77 while Alizza placed 46th (4:03.16) and Rozier-Byrd finished 49th (4:04.36) in the field of 63 runners.
In the unseeded 1,500-meter run, Drew Bouchard (San Diego, Calif.) placed 12th in the field of 87 runners with a time of 4:03.11.
Both men's and women's track teams are back in action Saturday, April 3, at the Southern Connecticut State Invitational in New Haven, Conn.
