Drew Locke and Ryan Morgan each stroked a pair of hits to lead the Boston College baseball team to a 4-1 win over Holy Cross, Wednesday, March 24 in Worcester, Mass. The victory snapped an eight-game winless streak and improved BC's record to 4-13 while HC fell to 1-6-1.
Joe Martinez hurled a three-hitter through 6.0 innings for the win, allowing one earned run. The junior right-hander issued four walks and struck out three before yielding to reliever Mike Gauthier, who earned his second save of the season, with a three-inning, scoreless pitching effort.
BC scored one run right off the start thanks to leadoff batter, Ryan Morgan, who doubled down the right field line and scored on Garrett Greer's (Peabody, Mass.) single through the opposite side.
In the third, BC's advantage swelled to 4-0 courtesy of four Eagle hits and one Crusader error. Morgan stimulated the next BC run, singling to left field, and two batters later scoring on Locke's triple to right center. Locke, who also posted a double in addition to that triple in the game, came home on Ryan Leahy's (Salem, Mass.) single then Josh DiScipio (Schenectady, N.Y.) extended his hitting streak to seven, plating Leahy for the fourth and final run.
Holy Cross stranded 12 runners in the game and loaded the bases in the third and sixth frames, yielding only one run on Chris Doneski's groundout to second. Sophomore Tom Potvin led the offensive charge for the hosts with his two hits.
Jason Lynch picked up the loss, his second of the season.
BC plays Hartford this weekend at a place, date and time to be determined.
