Yovankin Tabbed BIG EAST Defensive Player Of The Week

PROVIDENCE - Junior midfielder Jackie Yovankin (Medford Lakes, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week the conference announced on Monday. Yovankin, a 2004 Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team selection, paced the Eagles to a 2-1 week recording six ground balls, five draw controls and five caused turnovers in wins over Harvard and La Salle.
In an 11-2 loss to Pennsylvania, she led all players with four ground balls and five turnovers. Offensively, she contributed two goals and one assist for the week.
The award marks the first time this year and the third time in Yovankin's career that she has received Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
As a sophomore, Yovankin topped BC, the BIG EAST and NCAA with 89 groundballs collected. She led the team in caused turnovers with 33 and draw controls with 34. She also tallied 13 goals and assisted on seven others for 20 points. The junior is a two-time All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree.
Boston College is off to its best start (4-1) since Head Coach Shari Krasnoo took over the program four years ago. The Eagles travel to Providence, R.I. to face Brown at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Their next home game is Sunday, March 21 against Hofstra. The match begins at 1:00 p.m.
