Freshman Michelle Lombardi (Milton, Mass.) notched a goal and assist but it was not enough as the Connecticut women's ice hockey team erased a 3-1 deficit for a 4-3 victory over host Boston College, Friday, Feb. 6 at Kelley Rink. The Huskies improved to 8-13-4 and picked up a Hockey East win (4-5-2) while BC moved to 5-13-2 and still seek its first victory in the loop.
Junior Megan McLeod scored UConn's second and fourth goals of the night to give the Huskies the come-from-behind victory with Tiffany Owens assisting on each of those tallies.
UConn drew first blood thanks to Sara Mahoney's strike almost seven minutes into the first period. A very productive second period from the Eagles facilitated a 3-1 BC advantage at the end of 40 minutes. BC capitalized on almost half of its shots, finding the back of the net on three of seven attempts. Lombardi's power-play goal knotted the score at one just 1:23 into the second. stanza. Five minutes later, Lombardi set up Megan Scully?s (Bound Brook, N.J.) picture-perfect goal with a sweet pass through the crease to give Scully a wide open chip shot into the net. Halfway through the second, Sarah Courtney (Belmont, Mass.) broke away and beat UConn goaltender Shannon Murphy one-on-one to grant the Eagles a 3-1 edge.
Leslie Hurlburt top-shelved UConn's next goal over goaltender Lisa Davis? (Falmouth, Mass.) left shoulder, to make it 3-3 at the 14:46 mark. With 1:26 left in the game, McLeod struck gold for the second time to prevent an extra five minutes of play.
Shannon Murphy made 11 saves for UConn while Davis stopped 18.
BC hosts Boston University in the consolation round of the Beanpot Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Game time is 5 p.m.
