Junior Lisa Davis (Falmouth, Mass.) totaled a career-high 59 saves as the Boston College women's ice hockey team fell to third-ranked Harvard University, 4-0, in the second game of the Beanpot Tournament, Tuesday, Feb. 3, in Chestnut Hill. The Eagles fell to 5-12-2, and the Crimson bettered their record to 15-2-1.
Davis's whopping 59 stops tied the program's third-best total by a BC goaltender in a game. Christy Nentwig made 59 saves against Brown on Nov. 20, 1998. In the past three contests, all against top-10 opponents, Davis has accumulated 144 saves, averaging 48 per game. Tonight marked the 10th game of her career in which she has saved 40-plus shots.
Harvard outshot BC 23-3 in the first period, earning its first score on a power-play opportunity with 2:05 left in the stanza. Ashley Banfield won the face off, passed to Angela Ruggiero, whose slap shot carom was poked home by Lauren McAuliffe.
The Crimson next scored off a face off in the waning minutes of period two. Angela Ruggiero again came up with Lauren McAuliffe's face-off effort, and Nicole Corriero made the most of Ruggiero's rebound in front, stroking her 24th goal of the season.
Lauren McAuliffe earned her second goal of the night thanks to another man-up chance and assists from Banfield and Corriero, just 4:03 into the third and final frame. Then Nicole Corriero matched her teammate with another goal, capitalizing on a scramble in front of the net just under two minutes later. McAuliffe and Chu notched the assists.
Emily Vitt made eight saves in goal for the Crimson, who outshot BC 63-8 on the game.
BC hosts Connecticut on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.
