Hellberg Named BIG EAST/Aeropostale Scholar-Athlete Award Winner

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior Emily Hellberg (Spring Lake, Mich.) was named a BIG EAST/Aeropostale Scholar-Athlete Award winner, the conference announced yesterday. Hellberg compiled a team-best 20-6 singles record and a 14-14 mark at the No. 1 doubles slot her junior season.
She will receive a $2,000 stipend that will go toward their graduate studies.
The product of Spring Lake, Mich. went 6-1 in conference doubles matches and advanced the round of 16 at the ITA Regional Championships last year.
She is a Political Science and Theology double major and a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star as well as a three-time recipient of the BC Athletic Director's Award for Academic Achievement. Hellberg received the James. G. Murphy Memorial Scholarship. She is a member of BC's student-athlete advisory board and serves as the school's representative at the NCAA Leadership Conference.
Also an avid volunteer, Hellberg is a Eucharistic minister and serves for "Young Life," a non-denominational, non-profit organization committed to impacting kid's lives and preparing them for the future, and is co-founder of the Honduras Education and Leadership Project (HELP).
