
Women's Ice Hockey Falls To Providence 7-5

Providence, R.I. - Christine Moynihan stopped a game-high 38 shots as the Boston College women's ice hockey team finished it home-and-home series with Providence College (8-4-3, 4-0-0) on Saturday night at Schneider Arena. The Eagles dropped the Hockey East match 7-5.
In the opening period, the Friars came out shooting with 16 attempts on goal. Providence capitalized for three goals from Katelynn Laffin, Kelli Doolin, and Rush Zimmerman in the first. The Eagles headed into the intermission trailing 3-0.
At the start of the second the Friars added two even-strength goals to give them the 5-0 edge.
BC did not give up as it took advantage of the power play late in the second. The freshman trio of Sarah Feldman, Deborah Spillane, and Colleen Harris each tallied power-play goals as the team went 3-for-6 on the power play in the second to bring the score to 5-3.
Feldman notched her eighth goal of the season at the 9:18 mark, while Spillane and Kerri Sanders were credited with the assists. At 14:31, Harris scored as Sanders and Feldman earned the assists. With 1:48 remaining in the period, Spillane netted her sixth power-play goal of the year. The Eagles put 13 shots on goal in the second stanza.
BC continued its intense play at the start of the third. The Eagles scored their fourth unanswered goal at 2:18 into the period. Sarah Carlson connected on the team's second short-handed goal of the season when she fired a slap shot from the red line past Providence's goalie to bring the Eagles within one. Sanders recorded her third assist of the game on the score.
The Friars added a goal at 7:05 of the third period to take a 6-4 lead.
The Eagles had an answer for Providence just seconds later when Jill McInnis netted her first goal of the season at 7:06, that left the score 6-5, with 12:54 left in the game. Nancy Gillis and Heidi Seidewand earned the assists on the tally.
At 13:43, the Friars scored the final goal of the night to take the 7-5 victory.
BC finished the night 3-for-8 on the power play, while Providence went 2-for-7 on its chances.
The Eagles had 27 shots on goal, while Providence put 46 shots on net.
BC (3-10-1, 1-6-1) will return to Kelley Rink on Tuesday, December 7 for a matchup against Vermont. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
