Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Junior forward Craig Smith tallied 30 points and 14 rebounds and sophomore guard Sean Marshall posted 20 points and seven rebounds to lead Boston College to an 88-70 non-league victory over Duquesne before 2,507 fans in Conte Forum.
The Eagles (9-0) scored the game's first seven points and then took advantage of Smith's dominance in the interior to grab a double-digit advantage (20-9) just more than 10 minutes into the contest. At that point, Smith had outscored the visiting Dukes, 12-9.
Riding the hot shooting of Smith and Marshall, BC extended its margin and led 45-20 at halftime. Smith finished the first 20 minutes with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Marshall totaled 13 points - including three three-point field goals - and seven rebounds in the first half.
BC outrebounded Duquesne, 35-8, in the opening half.
Duquesne (2-9) caught fire in the second half, shooting 66.7 percent from the field. Still, the Dukes could never trim the BC advantage to fewer than 16 points.
