Providence, R.I. - Boston College senior captain Jessalyn Deveny (Westford, Mass.) and freshman guard/forward Shamika Jackson (Wallingford, Conn.) were honored by the BIG EAST office this week. Deveny was named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week while Jackson was named Freshman of the Week Monday morning after their solid efforts over the last week. The honor is Deveny's second this season while Jackson is collecting her first award. It marks the second and third time that an Eagle has been so honored by the conference office this year.
In a week that saw BC capture two big non-conference wins, Deveny averaged 20.5 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in 59 minutes played. Deveny led all scorers in both games, netting 18 in an 82-40 win over Fordham and a season-high 23 in a 78-49 win over New Hampshire. Deveny shot a combined 15-for-21 from the field and was perfect from the free throw line, going 10-for-10.
Jackson averaged 11.5 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 rebounds in BC's two-victory week. In the two games, she missed just one shot from the field, shooting 8-of-9, and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. In the Fordham win, Jackson netted a career-high 15 points.
The 17th-ranked Eagles (7-1/0-0 BIG EAST) remain at home for their next two contests. They will next host Saint Joseph's at 7:00 p.m. on December 22. The team will close out the year with a December 30 tilt against George Washington.
