Craig Smith Earns National Weekly Honor

Boston College junior Craig Smith earned Sporting News National Player of the Week honors for his efforts in three victories from Dec. 5-11, according to an announcement made by the magazine.
Smith, a 6-foot-7-inch forward, averaged 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in victories over UCLA (in the John R. Wooden Classic), Holy Cross and Boston University. He shot 21-for-38 from the field (55.3 percent).
Smith tallied 20 points and seven rebounds in the Eagles' 74-64 win over UCLA. The game marked a homecoming for the Los Angeles resident, who played at Fairfax High School.
After returning to his Chestnut Hill campus, the junior posted two double-doubles. He recorded 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 63-60 overtime win over Holy Cross, and then posted 19 points - all in the second half - and 10 rebounds in an 80-74 victory over Boston University.
Smith, a preseason All-Big East first-team selection, currently ranks 15th on Boston College's career scoring list with 1,304 points. He has 574 career rebounds in 71 games.
Boston College, currently 7-0, returns to action on Sunday, December 19 against Yale. Game time is 2 p.m. in BC's Conte Forum.
