
Eagles Win Seventh Straight, 80-74

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior Craig Smith registered 19 points - all in the second half - and 10 rebounds to lead Boston College to a hard-fought 80-74 victory over Boston University before 4,398 fans in Conte Forum.
Also scoring in double figures for the Eagles were Smith's fellow Californians Jared Dudley and Sean Marshall. Dudley tallied 17 points, including 13 in the second half. Marshall totaled 19 points, including 17 in the first half.
Led by Marshall, Boston College led 38-32 at halftime. After Smith got on the scoresheet with one free throw and Marshall added a field goal, the visiting Terriers rallied. BU used a 12-0 run to take a 44-41 advantage with 15:23 to play.
BU extended its lead to four points - 47-43 - on a Chaz Carr three-point field goal with 14:43 remaining. BC answered with five straight points to take the lead. The two teams then traded baskets with the Eagles finishing the exchange on a Dudley field goal at 12:13 that gave the Eagles the lead for good (52-51).
BU's Carr sank another three-point field goal to trim his team's deficit to two points, before BC's Smith scored eight straight points to give the Eagles a 71-61 cushion. BC led by as many as 10 points three times in the final five minutes.
The Terriers narrowed the margin to four points with 13.6 seconds to play, but BC's Steve Hailey sank two free throws to conclude the game's scoring.
Game Notes: Hailey made his second start of the season and tallied seven points and six assists. Junior Louis Hinnant missed the game while resting his previously injured left ankle ... Smith recorded his second consecutive double-double ... Dudley grabbed six rebounds, while Marshall recorded five rebounds and a team-high two steals ... Freshman Sean Williams recorded four points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and one steal in 19 minutes of action ... Freshman Akida McLain contributed four points on 2-for-3 shooting from the field (in six minutes) ... BC gained a 43-31 rebounding edge. The Eagles grabbed 21 offensive rebounds ... BU shot 51.8 percent from the field, while BC shot 45.5 percent. The Eagles shot 51.9 percent from the floor in the second half.
