The Boston College women's ice hockey team returned home this evening for a Hockey East match against the University of Connecticut (3-3-0,1-1-0). The Eagles fell 4-1 at Kelley Rink in the first game of their home-and-home series with the Huskies.
UCONN opened up the scoring in the first period with three goals. Lisa Davis got the start in net for the Eagles and stopped six shots in the opening stanza. The Eagles had two power-play changes in the first but were unable to complete the score.
BC looked rejuvenated in the second period by firing eight shots on goal. At 7:31 Kim Meagher released a crisp pass to Deborah Spillane, who one-timed the puck past the Huskies goalie to cut the deficit to two. Spillane notched her third goal in as many games and earned her seventh point of the season on the tally. Meagher registered her first point of the year on the assist.
The Huskies closed out the scoring in the final period when Jaclyn Hawkins scored her second goal of the night.
Goalie Christine Moynihan also saw her first action of the season. The sophomore played the second and third periods for the Eagles and made 17 saves on the night.
Kerri Sanders and Heidi Seidewand both had good scoring opportunities for the Eagles but were unable to connect. The two seniors combined for six shots on the game.
BC (1-5-0, 0-2-0) will travel to Storrs, Conn. on Sunday for a rematch against the Huskies at 2 p.m.
