Freshman forward Dan Bertram was named on Thursday by the NHL's Central Scouting Service's Preliminary Rankings as the top non-drafted player in U.S. College Hockey.
The preliminary rankings break down players by league. The list on which Bertram appears is a composite of all U.S. College Hockey conferences. The final rankings are due to be released next spring. These rankings lump the players into two categories: North American or European. Goalies are on a separate list in all cases.
Bertram, playing on top-ranked Boston College's first line, has played beside 2003 Hockey East All-Conference forwards Ryan Shannon and Patrick Eaves. In seven games, Bertram has notched five points on a team-leading five goals. He has twice been named Hockey East Rookie of the Week (October 18 and November 1).
Freshman defenseman Mike Brennan also appears on the list in the ninth spot.
