Anderson Earns Big East Libero Of The Year

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Allison Anderson captured Big East Libero of the Year honors at the conference's annual volleyball banquet in Pittsburgh, Pa. this evening. Anderson and Katie Andersen earned All-Conference second-team accolades, while Verena Rost received All-Big East honorable mention. This is the first time in program history that BC has received conference honors.
Anderson dominated defensively for the Eagles. The captain moved to libero from outside hitter 10 matches into the season and adjusted perfectly. Anderson is the only Eagle to play in all 125 games this year. She finished the season with 684 digs, averaging 5.47 per game. The sophomore led the Big East in conference matches with 327 digs for an average of 7.79 per game. She also contributed from the backcourt with 39 service aces on the year. Anderson set an NCAA and Big East record with 57 digs against Villanova for the most digs in a match since rally scoring went into place.
Andersen was a key performer both offensively and defensively for the Eagles. The senior led the team with 394 kills and set the BC record for most kills in a single season. She finished the year with an average of 3.28 kills per game and a .237 attacking percentage. Defensively, she made 364 digs for an average of 3.03 per game. In conference play, Andersen continued to dominate. She registered 150 kills in 41 games, averaging 3.66 kills per game and added 123 digs, averaging 3.00 per game.
Rost controlled the attack for the Eagles at setter. The junior made 1242 assists in 113 games for an average of 10.99 per game. She led the team in service aces with 42. Rost also dominated in conference play with 429 assists. She finished second in the Big East with 13.00 assists per game.
BC (20-11, 6-4) finished with its first winning record in the Big East in program history. The Eagles also qualified for their first postseason since the field was cut from eight to four teams in 1993.
BC will look to earn it first victory in the Big East Championship on Saturday when they play Notre Dame (16-9, 9-1) at the Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh, Pa. The match starts at 1 p.m. Live stats are available by clicking on the volleyball schedule page.
