US College Hockey Online released its individual honors for the upcoming women's hockey season. BC freshman Deborah Spillane was named to the All-USCHO Rookie Team. This is the first time in program history that a BC freshman has been honored in this preseason poll. Spillane is the only rookie among Hockey East member teams to receive this preseason accolade.
Spillane, the Franklin, (Mass.) native, comes to BC after playing two seasons for Franklin High School's varsity boy's team. In two seasons, she scored 15 goals and added 26 assists. She also played for four-time national champions, Assabet Valley. Most recently Spillane competed in the 2004 Women's National Training Camp in Colorado Springs, Colo. and earned the 2003-04 John Carlton Memorial Trophy. This award is given annually by the Boston Bruins to the most outstanding student-athlete in Eastern Massachusetts high school hockey.
Spillane is expected to make a big impact on the Eagle's offense. She is one of nine freshmen to join BC's 2004-05 squad. Last week the Eagles were selected to finish third in the conference in the 2004-2005 Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll. A third place finish in the conference would give BC its first-ever Hockey East playoff berth.
BC will open it season at home on Saturday, October 16 against Wayne State at 2 p.m.
