Women's Ice Hockey Falls Short To Quinnipiac 3-2

The Eagles dropped their first road game of the season to Quinnipiac (2-3-0) this afternoon. BC (0-3-0) tied the game at two in the third period, but the Bobcats connected late in the period to take the game from the Eagles 3-2.
Quinnipiac took a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission. The Bobcats out-shot the Eagles 8-7 in the opening period. BC had its chances with five power-play opportunities coming in the first period. Deborah Spillane tried to get BC on the board with three shots to start off the game.
The Eagles showed a reinvigorated offense in the second period. The Eagles were able to get off seven shots on goal in the second stanza. With five power-play opportunities in the period, the Eagles capitalized on a Quinnipiac tripping penalty. Sarah Feldman notched a power-play goal for her fourth goal on the season at 16:46 in the period. Linemates Spillane and Colleen Harris assisted on the goal. Goalie Alison Quandt held off the Bobcats in the period, stopping all five shots she faced. The junior made 23 saves on the day.
Trailing 2-1 entering the final period, the Eagles got another power-play opportunity just 3:51 into the period. Trina Hulshof received a two-minute penalty for cross-checking. BC took advantage and connected with 16 seconds left on the power-play. Harris circled the net and backhanded a shot from 10 feet out to beat Quinnipiac's goalie.
Quinnipiac responded seven minutes later with a goal by Aimee Whittaker. The late period goal proved to be the gamewinner for the Bobcats. Quinnipiac out-shot BC 13-8 in the final frame.
The Eagles earned 13 power-play chances on the day, while the Bobcats had four opportunities.
BC will host seventh-ranked New Hampshire (4-0-0, 1-0-0) tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Kelley Rink in Hockey East action.
