A seventh place overall finish for Boston College golfer Katie Napleton lifted the Eagles to a fifth place team finish in the Yale Fall Intercollegiate played at The Course at Yale. Conditions were extremely difficult for the weekend tournament. With the course playing at a 5900 yards, the difficulty of the par 70 was compounded by blistering winds both days.
The team was comprised of Katie Napleton, Elizabeth Callery, Elizabeth Friel, Tiffany Wernig, and Moira O'Connell. These five would compete for the team score. Freshmen Courtney Tincher and Lara Smilnak played as individuals, which is separate from the team's finish.
After a first day team total of 341, the Eagles improved with a second day team total of 329, to earn a spot in the top five of the nine team field. BC's total strokes ended at 670, a +110 for the invitational.
The Eagles' top finisher was Freshman Katie Napleton, shooting an 82, 78, good for 7th place overall. Senior Elizabeth Callery finished second for the Eagles, shooting an 86 and an 82. This score slotted Callery at 24th overall.
The team was rounded out by rounds from Elizabeth Friel (89, 82), Tiffany Wernig (86, 87) and Moira O'Connell (87, 90).
In the individuals, Tincher shot a 79 and an 82, landing her tied for 8th overall. Smilnak shot an 87 and an 95, placing her 32nd overall.
The team's final fall tournament is the 54 hole, Ross Resorts Invitational, played November 1-2 at Mid Pines golf course in Southern Pines, NC.
