Freshman Dan Bertram earned Hockey East "Superskills Hockey Rookie of the Week" honors after opening his collegiate career with a two-goal performance in the Eagles' 6-2 win over defending national champion Denver.
Bertram, who began the season on the first line with Ryan Shannon and Patrick Eaves, netted his first goal at 18:18 of the first period. After Eaves picked up a loose puck and flipped it to a streaking Bertram, the freshman beat the last defender and put it in top shelf to give BC a 3-0 lead. With the goal, Bertram became the first Eagle to net the game-winning goal in his first collegiate contest since Patrick Eaves did so against Massachusetts to begin the 2002-03 season.
Bertram's second score was another hustle play. He beat the last line of defense and scored on an empty net in the third period.
Boston College returns to action against UMass-Lowell on Tuesday, Oct. 19. Game time is 7 p.m. in Lowell's Tsongas Arena.
