The women's tennis team spent the weekend competing at the USTA Women's College Tennis Invitational, compiling an 11-13 record despite a roster ravaged by injuries.
The Eagles celebrated the return of sophomore Lindsey Nash who had been out with an injury since April. Nash, who led the team in individual victories as a freshman, returned to action in doubles play. Teamed with freshman Gia Nafarrete, who she had teamed with while playing the junior circuit in California, Nash was unable to win in her return as the duo dropped both matches in the Flight A Doubles draw.
Senior co-captain Nida Waseem had a strong performance for the Eagles, going 2-1 in singles play. Waseem lost her opening round match, but rebounded to defeat Rutgers' Jill Markowitz - 4-6, 6-3 (10-7) - and Georgetown's Liora Gelblum - 7-5, 7-6 (5). Waseem teamed with junior Szilvia Szegedi to win two doubles matches for Boston College.
Coach Nigel Bentley is encouraged by his team's play this fall, but would love to see a healthier squad in the coming weeks.
"Our team is decimated by injuries," Bentley said. "Hopefully we'll regroup a little bit and get stronger."
