PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Jessalyn Deveny scored 17 points, and No. 20 Boston College extended the best start in school history by beating Providence 73-53 Wednesday night.
Deveny scored 12 points in the first half, which ended with Boston College leading 35-17. She also handed out six assists.
Amber Jacobs added 16 points for the Eagles (12-1, 2-0 Big East), who scored 27 points off a season-high 28 Providence turnovers.
Jama Gilmore led Providence (4-9, 0-2) with 13 points while Brooke Freeburg scored 12.
Boston College outscored Providence 11-1 for a 19-9 lead, and closed out the first half with a 16-3 run to a 35-17 edge.
The Eagles, who alternated between a man-to-man and zone defense, held the Friars without a basket for 7 minutes, 41 seconds in the first half.
The closest the Friars could get in the second half was 38-26 with 17:07 remaining.
It was Boston College's eighth consecutive win over Providence.
The Eagles will host No. 24 Miami (12-1/1-1) Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
