Boston College sophomore Nancy Gillis (Needham, Mass.) earned TPS/Hockey East Player-of-the-Week honors in an announcement made by the league, Monday, Jan. 5. She is the first Eagle to be recognized this season.
Gillis accounted for both goals as the women's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie against visiting Colgate University, Sunday, Jan. 4 at Kelley Rink. The Eagles, who had not played since Nov. 30, improved to 3-8-1.
After Colgate jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 6:59 in the first period, Gillis added her first collegiate score just over six minutes later when she converted passes from Kristin Blundo (Canton, Mass.) and freshman Jessica Wilson (Guilford, Conn.).
With only 1:41 remaining in the second stanza, Gillis capitalized on passes from Alaina Clark (Alhambra, Calif.) and Heidi Seidewand (Groton, Mass.) to high shelf her second goal of the game.
Gillis, a BC women's lacrosse transplant, has a total of three points in her first season skating for the Eagles. Her previous point came when she made an assist in BC's 3-2 loss to Maine, Nov. 14.
Boston College returns to action on Jan. 9 at Quinnipiac. Game time is 7 p.m.
