
Women's Tennis Opens With Win Over Dartmouth, 6-1

HANOVER, N.H. - The Boston College women's tennis team kicked off its 2004 spring campaign defeating Dartmouth, 6-1, on Sunday, Jan. 25 in Hanover, N.H. The Eagles (1-0) took five of six singles matches and won all three doubles competitions to earn their first victory in dual match play.
In No.1 singles action, sophomore Szilvia Szegedi (Dumakeszi, Hungary) returned from an ankle injury that saw her sidelined most of the fall campaign to defeat Dartmouth's Jayme Ahmed in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6.
Junior Nida Waseem (Karachi, Pakistan) also won her match in three sets defeating Catherine Crandall, 7-6, 1-6, 6-4, in the No. 2 singles slot. Senior Allison Ashley (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) beat Lindsay Winingham in straight sets (7-5, 6-4) and freshman Lindsey Nash (Temecula, Calif.) continued her winning ways topping Ann Scott 6-1, 6-3. Amy Molden (Huron, Ohio) rounded out the winners for BC, defeating Kelsey Surbaugh 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles action, the Eagles won all three matches led by the No. 1 tandem of senior Emily Hellberg (Spring Lake, Mich.) and Waseem. The two beat Scott and Winingham, 8-5, while Ashley and Szegedi, playing in the No. 2 doubles spot advanced, 8-2. Junior Morgan Landes (Huron, Ohio), who fell to Kerry Snow in singles action, avenged her loss in doubles action. She teamed with Nash to beat Crandall and Snow, 9-7.
Boston College is back in action Saturday, Feb. 7 when they host Columbia at the Flynn Recreation Complex. The action begins at 9:30 a.m.
