The Boston College Eagles (5-9-2) surrendered two late-game goals to lose, 3-1, to Northeastern, Sunday, Jan. 18 at Kelley Rink. The Eagles dropped to 5-9-2 and still have yet to win a game in the competitive Hockey East Conference (0-6) while Northeastern, which is receiving a pair of votes in the USCHO national poll, improved to 8-5-6 and 2-3-2. The Huskies' only other Hockey East victory came against BC on Nov. 26.
BC opened up the game's scoring when junior Kerri Sanders (Saugus, MA) racked up her fifth goal of the season, thanks to Jen Fischl's (Whitehall, Pa) assist on BC's first power-play attempt of the game to lift the Eagles, 1-0, at the 14:06 mark of the first period. Three minutes later, Northeastern's Cyndy Kenyon posted her ninth tally of the season, receiving the assist from Ashly Waggoner at 17:04, to knot the score at one.
The Eagles out shot NU, 14-6, in that first frame but landed on the short side with only six shots in the second period to Northeastern's 14.
As time wound down in the third stanza, Marie Desrosiers made the most of her one-on-one opportunity to stuff the puck inside the goal line with BC's Lisa Davis sliding back into the net. Cyndy Kenyon was credited with the assist on that goal.
NU?s Lori DiGiacomo padded the lead by scoring an empty-net goal when BC pulled Davis in favor of an extra skater with 1:32 left in the contest.
Davis collected 29 saves on the day while her NU counterpart, Chanda Gunn, the conference's reigning Defensive Player of the Week, picked up 28, including seven in the final period.
BC killed all five of Northeastern's extra-man advantages while the Eagles capitalized on one of seven of their opportunities.
The Eagles, who suffered their first loss since Nov. 30, play at UNH, Friday, Jan. 23. Game time is 7 p.m.
